The ship slides into the harbor sounding its whistle. The small island silhouette that was hazy on the horizon suddenly towers before your eyes as a huge mass. The trees rustle in the sea breeze, and the sunlit water surface is dazzling. I don’t know if I decided to spend my long-awaited holiday on the island because I wanted to escape the city heat or because I read essays by Makoto Shiina. But I feel the waves splashing on my cheeks, doze off on the sandy beach, and gaze absentmindedly at the endlessly wide starry sky. I wanted to spend such a relaxing day. Rolling up the sleeves of my linen shirt, I step onto the gangway in flip-flops. Summer has started again this year.
